Other Interior Renovations

So let’s take stock here, shall we?  We’ve talked about kitchen renovations, bathroom renovations, remodelling living areas, bedrooms, closets, basements … is that all there is?

No Dorothy, there’s more.  And here on this page are examples of some other fun interior renovations.  If you can think of a few things to improve in your home and want to discuss them with us, we’d be happy to hear from you.

Tiling

Tiling is something of a specialty here at Meaford Home Improvements.  Between kitchen renovations and bathroom renovations, foyers and hallways, it seems that there’s always something that needs to be tiled.  Floors, showers, backsplashes, accent walls, the list goes on. We tile with thinset mortar, not globs of glue, and we use a laser level to keep things arrow-straight.  Also we might try to talk you in to heated floors, because toasty toes on tile are worth it!

Tiling is all about planning.  Measuring and planning, and measuring some more, followed by some more planning.  Once the first tile hits the floor (or the wall, as the case may be), there’s no changing where the last one will  wind up.  Proper planning ensures the optimum layout in all areas of the room, from the first tile to the last.

Framing and Drywall

Framing and Drywall are fundamental required skills for interior contractors.

Framing, boarding, taping, mudding, sanding, we love it all here at Meaford Home Improvements.

Well not the sanding so much, sanding is the worst.  Still, we’ll do it (and do it well), to move your project that one step nearer to completion.  Thankfully they now make Dust Control drywall compound.  This stuff does really help to reduce sanding dust going everywhere, which is good for everyone.  Especially if you’re living in a house where a renovation is taking place!  Wherever possible, we use this stuff for the final finishing mud coats, where most of the dust comes from.

Painting

No matter whether we’re renovating your kitchen, your bathroom, your pantry, your wrapping room, your aviary … we’re generally going to wind up painting something at some stage.

So usually we do our painting as part of a larger renovation project.  But we’re fully equipped, with super sick skills, and we’ve even been known to do the odd stand alone paint job as well.

Here’s a  photo where we’re hanging some shelves on the wall using the laser level.  But we did have to paint that room before hanging those shelves.  Can you tell that we can’t find a really great “painting” picture atm?

That paint is called ‘Easter Egg Pink’ if memory serves.  Use with caution.

Trim Work

Quality, detailed trim work contributes a huge amount to the overall impression of your home.  After all, the visible part of your home, before the fixtures and furniture move in, really consists of mainly walls and trim.

Construction of all that glorious framing & mechanicals is now forever hidden behind the walls.  Now you have paint and trim.  Maybe some nice accent surfaces and built-ins, that sort of thing, but you get the idea.

Great looking trim, installed with attention to detail, can really make the difference between a good looking room and a great looking room.

At Meaford Home Improvements, we sweat the small stuff in the quest to make your trim, and hence your home, look  great.

Custom Woodworking

Sometimes what you need can’t be found on the shelf at your local hardware store.  At those times, we can help.

Here’s a photo taken while we are making a big pile of shavings from a baluster with one of our block planes.

Right now we can’t for the life of us remember exactly why we were doing that, but there must have been a reason.

Anyway, for custom railings, built-in bookcases, foyer (or mudroom) bench and cubby systems, you name it, you know who to call.

New Fixture Installation

Sometimes fixtures break and need to be replaced.  Sometimes we just want a new look or a new function.

Faucets, lighting fixtures, door handles, towel bars, built-in shelving – anything along those lines that’s ‘permanently attached’ to your home is considered a fixture.

Eventually fixtures need to be replaced or we just get sick of them and want to look at something new for a while.  When your fixtures need fixing, we can help.
