Meaford Home Improvements

Exterior Renovations

We spend lots and lots of time remodelling home interiors.  But sometimes we like to get outside in the rain and the sleet and do some exterior construction, renovations, builds, maintenance and general improvements as well.  This helps to remind us just how cushy the interior home contractor has it.  Drop us a line to discuss your exterior project ideas.

Sheds

Sure, we build sweet sheds.

This one pictured here is built on concrete piers.  The floor’s joist box is filled with gravel (put in before the floor went on), so it doesn’t become a home for critters underneath – a neat trick.

It’s framed in 2×4 with 2 sets of doors.  One set of doors accesses the main area of the shed.  The other set is for a separate sealed compartment for garbage and recycling bins – to keep those special smells out of the main area.

T1-11 cladding, which gives a ‘reverse board & batten’ look, keeps the walls sharp looking and affordable.  Site-built asymmetrical ‘saltbox’ truss roof, shingled with felt underlayment and all the aluminium trims.  Built-in shelving inside.

Rock-solid, looks good, highly functional shed.  Grade A-OK.

Decks and Fences

Decks and fences are staples of the building biz.  Although these days you’ll want to keep an eye on the cost of lumber as it bounces around from week to week!

We like to overbuild our decks beyond what’s mandated by minimum code where possible.  When’s the last time you heard someone complain that a deck felt too solid?  Us either.

The deck & fence pictured here are in Western Red Cedar.  Simple design, solid deck, nice straight fence.  The upper section of this deck has a section that can be removed to access a basement entrance below.  So large items like couches and washing machines (that wouldn’t fit down the interior basement stairway) can still make it to the basement.

More, better, pictures and descriptions to come, one fine day.
